THE FUTURE OF THE PAYATAS KIDS

The end of the year was a fantastic testimony for the grace of God.

Our fourth anniversary was joyful and full of hope for the future of this ministry as was the Christmas celebration for 100 of the poor children in Payatas thanks to our supporters. We then were able to give out 200 bags of food at the Payatas dumpsite thanks to our new friend Ariel Reguera and his group, Bagong Yugto.

At every event we have shared
the word of God which offers hope when there is no hope and allows the
kids to see the future as won and not lost.

We are quickly approaching
our fifth year here. July 18th marks the day we left America in 2006 and
according to business statistics, if you can last 5 years, you are a
viable business. Well, we are a non-profit institution and although I
mean that literally, we are looking to a profitable future for Payatas.

The vision of Payatas
which includes a 2000 seat sanctuary, a school starting from k-8 ,
missionary quarters for visiting missionaries to come and work with us
here has not failed to be in our minds. Perhaps we will have another
medical clinic and a residence for up to four Pastors to help lead this
ministry. We think big because we have a big God and nothing is beyond
His means.

2010 saw many confessions of
faith, baptisms and a Church that has grown stronger each day. It has
for some time now, overfilled our walls and many times some of the
children needed to be taught down the road at another outdoor facility.

Our members are dedicated to
the work of Payatas which will see this place turn from a city of
Garbage to the city of God. Every week over 50 of our people spread the
Gospel of hope throughout Payatas.

2011 will see much more
accomplishments as we seek the help of our friends as well as recruiting
more help to this important mission.

Because of you, Children are
growing up in hope. They have goals where they had none when we begun.
They have a vision of a future that is not impeded by abject poverty but
through the grace of God, education and encouragement they will suceed.

Some can give much and some can give little but all work together to make this a strong, profitable ministry.

Our goal is to see Payatas
and the Payatas principle, (which says all must fail) turned on it’s
ear. We specialize in the Children but reach out to the adults as well.

The children; however, are
the future of Payatas. They believe it can be done. While adults tend to
be set in their ways, children are not as jaded and have faith that
helps them to move forward.

Once again November has come and gone.

You may ask “What is the
significance of November?” Well, other than Thanksgiving and elections
it is also my birthday. So it is very special to me every time I get to
say, “I’m still here.” So far, I have said it 58 times. (A little
garbled the first couple of years)

I am sure you are saying, ” I
have the same circumstances and have seen the years pass one at a time
also. So I will ask you this. Are the latter years better than the
earlier ones? Is it getting better all the time? I sure hope it is for
you because it sure is for me.

You might wonder in a
downward economy how it could be better. When I came here the dollar was
56-1 and now it is 43-1, yet God gave us more supporters and we have
actually seen a bit of a raise despite the crisis.

When I came here my health was worse and now I am stronger these almost five years.

My relationship with my wife
is at an all-time high, the kids are growing and are such a blessing and
the church is exploding in it’s population.

The eagerness of the Church members to make this the best Church they ever belonged to is great.

Our fourth anniversary was wonderful. Our people said it was the best one yet.

All in all, I may not be rich, handsome or famous but I am so very happy to be serving God in this place.

When you do what He wants, you cannot help but to enjoy what you are doing.

I pray that all of you are as fulfilled in your lives as you focus on our Lord and Saviour, Jesus.

PBC’s FOURTH ANNIVERSARY

As I said, our 4th
anniversary seemed to be the best. This year,s theme was taken from the
book of Galations – Gal 6:9 And let us not be weary in well doing: for
in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.

Brother Archie Abad
from our sending Church delivered a powerful message. He was accompanied
by his lovely new wife, Rachel and together they taught the children’s
Sunday school upstairs.

Once again the crowd was so big we had to take the kids down to the covered area to make room.

Door Knockers

We are consistently
getting over 50 door knockers every week. I am amazed at the dedication
of these people. The younger ones are teaming up with the older ones to
learn to better present the gospel and that is forging a bond between
young and old which will not be soon broken. Not only is Saturday door
knocking and Sunday service full but Sunday and Wednesday evenings are
crowded also. The excitement level is wonderful.

CHRISTMAS PARTY FOR THE PAYATAS KIDS!

Last month we asked
you to help by donating to the Christmas celebration for the Payatas
kids. Well, thank you! I believe it was less than a week that we raised
more than enough for the party. It was so much that the children will be
upgraded on the gifts and meals. They will also receive flip flops,
shirts and shorts and toys. Thanks so much for caring for these kids.
You are changing their lives.

PLEASE PRAY FOR THE BUILDING OF THE PBC COMPOUND

Our
Church children are very well behaved. They keep the area outside of
the Church spotless. This includes in front of the neighbors houses.
However, our next door neighbors are Mormons and they have been
complaining about the kids. Using excuses such as they should not be in
the road playing (although all the kids in the community play there
also) or the kids are too loud. I feel these are all excuses because
the kids are not Mormons. We have had no complaints from anyone else. We
do want to be good neighbors and so please pray that we can build the
compound which will help us to reach out to so many more in the
community.

CHRISTMAS IS COMING

We look forward to celebrating the birth of our Lord
Jesus next month. I have heard many say they now cringe when they think
of the money they will need to spend on Christmas.

We too think of giving our own children a nice
Christmas. Our kids do not receive gifts as they do in the States. As a
matter of fact, usually their Christmases are like a Little house on the
Prairie episode. Will you consider joining with us this year?

We are looking for many supporters that will help us

JUST A FEW MORE DAYS…

until our 4th ANNIVERSARY!

It is so hard to believe that we have been here for four
years now. Actually we have been here almost 4 &1/2 years but we
have been in this building for four years.

Looking back to see our accomplishments I need to only go here
to see our monthly diary since the day we arrived to the present. I
enjoy reading through those adventures remembering the hard trials and
smiling at the blessings.

I must admit it has sometimes been difficult being away from
family and friends. The one time I was able to make it back home was to
bury my sister and even then my family did not accompany me. So my
father has never seen my wife or two youngest children.

Yet it has been joyful as we have seen those converted and
grow in the Lord. We have seen so many lives touched and changed and
happy to be together in this Church.

OUR HOME

After six months in the new home we finally have a living
room set and a table and chairs. No more eating on the floor. Yea! I
think the best part of being here is being able to appreciate things so
taken for granted back in the States. A couch, a bed, food, even
electricity as “brownouts” are very common.

The very best thing is to be able to touch others in a way
that tells them that God loves them and wants a relationship with them.

THE CHILDREN OF PBC

It excites me to see the children growing up in the Church
some of who will be leaders in 10 years or so. They are so happy to be
here and to learn and grow.

These years I count out of all I have lived, to be my most
productive and fulfilled and I am happy to have reached this goal and
look forward to many more accomplishments here in Payatas.

THE CHILDREN ARE OUR FUTURE

We of course love everyone in our Church and count it a
blessing to be in the family of Christ here. I must however say that the
future of the Church are the children as they are learning from the
ground up so to speak.

One of the boys in our Church was told by his teacher that he
had to attend school late on Wednesdays. He was in tears as he related
the information to my wife and sad because he wants to attend Wednesday
evening services. Malou told him, ” just pray.” When he went to school
he spoke to the teacher and she said if he did his work he could leave
early. He was so thrilled to know he would not miss a day at the Church.

Another boy found 100 pesos in the street. He brought it to my
wife and told her he wanted to give 20 pesos of it to the Lord. Their
hearts are so precious.

We are currently going door knocking every Saturday and at least
two children accompany each adult as they learn to present the Gospel.
We have approximately 40 people each week

The children here used to say they wanted to work on the garbage
trucks or as Jeepney drivers when they grew up. Now they dream of
being doctors, nurses, engineers, even a Pastor!

Your support of this ministry is building hope within these children.

PRAYER VIGIL

We had an all
nighter, prayer and fasting on October 1st. The theme was not about us
but about God. We focussed on seeking His will in each of our lives.
Everyone attending experienced getting closer to the Lord.

BLESSINGS ABOUND!

Last month we had received many boxes from our
supporters and we were able to fix up the place where we live. We were
also blessed through friends so that we could paint our house.

Hi everyone. I am sorry that we are late but we have been so busy with things.

The Clinic

It’s Autumn or Fall, whatever you call it.

I remember going to Massachusetts, Maine, Vermont, New
Hampshire and seeing the changing of the colors of the leaves. It is
always so beautiful.

I got to thinking that even that the leaves are actually
dying, it is still so peaceful and beautiful. They are in their last
hoorah, if you will.

This past week we had to shut down the clinic. Even in
the last day we had the poor of Payatas coming out for us to check their
babies or themselves. Even as the changing of the leaves it was
peaceful as we said goodbye to that chapter in our ministry. We have
strived, and accomplished much and now that part has passed. Yet we
still have the Spring to look forward to where all things are once again
become new and fresh and all are hopeful. For those of you who have
helped with the clinic, we want to thank you for a most positive
experience and for the many, many lives that were touched.

OUR FIRST WEDDINGG

PBC celebrated our first wedding this October.

One of our teachers, Sister Alise Calsada married Michael Lee Smith of Michigan. A wonderful time was had by all.

With only a minimum of paperwork snafus we were able to make a legal couple out of them.

The Family

The Kids (mine, Laura and Linda) are doing very well.
Linda is now sounding out words and saying them (reading that is) She is
also doing basic Arithmetic, spelling and she writes pretty darn good.

Laura is doing great in her fifth grade studies. Many
thanks for those supporting her school needs as well as those who have
sent many books for her to read. She goes through a book a week at
least!

Malou is doing well and has had her first hair style in
probably five years or more. She looks great and is very happy. She is
doing a terrific job in the church as well as taking care of our family.
One of our supporters sent seeds and now Malou has a garden which just
may keep our vegetable bill down!

Our young people are doing much better in English at their schools as Malou continues to teach them English.

News From The Field

We had two
persons come for Baptism this month. One of them was a child and one was
an adult. In the children’s class, five actually came forward for
baptism but after speaking with them we realized they just did not get
it yet so only the one was baptized.

Additionally, one adult came forward for membership.-

Our class
taught by Sister Malou is doing great. One little girl was the only one
who stood up in her class at her school when the teacher asked for a
volunteer to read something in English.

The other day a
couple of the children approached Malou and asked her if they could
have Church the next day as they were off from school! Imagine that!

My wife looked
over in class one day and noticed a couple of the students sharing the
Gospel with a new kid. From the youngest to the oldest, they love to
share the word!

We will have our first wedding ceremony here at PBC this coming October the third.

Our very own Sister Alize Calzada of Rodriguez will be marrying brother Michael Smith of Michigan.

We all are very excited for them.

Our fourth Anniversary of PBC will be the first Sunday in November and we are looking forward to a grand old time in the Lord.

If anyone would like to donate for a lechon or for any other expenses, please feel free.

We were able to distribute clothes, toys and school supplies because of the generous giving of of faithful supporters.

We also have
four Balikbayan boxes coming out of California with many supplies much
needed for our home and to help with the Church School.

NO MORE HEALTHCARE?

Imagine if you were told that you had NO MORE HEALTHCARE?

If you were about to deliver your baby and found out
that you were on your own. If you were hit by a car it would be just too
bad. Can you imagine that?

When we started Payatas Baptist Healthcare
it was to try to stem the tide of those who would not receive basic
medical exams because of lack of money. We have been able to detect
those with contagious diseases such as T.B. and refer some over to
specialty organizations for suspected cancer. This type of help is
crucial to society and yet many would not see a doctor unless this free
service was provided to them but because of lack of funds, many would
get worse, spread sickness to others and miss the opportunity of even
continuing to live because of none or late diagnosis.

The last clinic we opened prospered because even though
the people were poor, they were able to buy the medications and we were
able to pay the staff and expenses. Here in the poorest area of Payatas,
many can not afford the medications. Many times we supplied the meds
out of our own personal expenses. The staff has forgone their salaries.
Sometimes part and sometimes their entire salary.

Unfortunately, this cannot continue, so We placed a fleece before the Lord.

We have decided to make a plea for supporters who will give on a continual basis
to keep the clinic open and ministering to the thousands here who need
help. The amount needed is $500 per month. That is 10 people at $12.50
per week or 20 at $6.50 per week… You get the idea.

SEND NO MONEY now. This is what I propose. If you are desiring to help keep this clinic open, send us an email (click here)
and let us know how much you are willing to give every week/month. If
we meet our goal of $500 per month, by September 30, we will send you an
email asking for your support starting the first week of October. If we
do not make the goal, we will email you to tell you.

Remember, it does not matter whether we get 1 person giving $500 per month or 500 giving $1 per month.

Dear Friends and Supporters,

We are in the midst of some exiting times.

I believe much of Biblical prophecy is unfolding before our very eyes. Who knows when we will face our creator?

Whether that day be today, tomorrow or years from now, what will be the expression on your face when you see Him?

Will it be one of a faithful servant who has done all they
could to please our Father? After all, we were made to please Him. Will
it be regret for the opportunities we missed to help those who have no
help?

I think of one scene in the movie Schindler’s list when he
looks down at his ring and with regret wonders how many lives he could
have saved with it.

Our worldy life will eventually pass away and if we know the
Lord as our Saviour, we will be taken to a place that right now we can
not describe. Now is so temporary. Yet sometimes we live as if we will
be here forever.

Please, Help save Payatas.

What is your reason?

Prior to Malou and I coming here in July of 2006, we had
quite a few people who told us they would be helping to support the
Mission each month.

We were quick to discover that not everyone who says
they will give; do, and others who never utter a sound, just give.

Some people get tired of hearing the same old pleas but
to tell the truth, we hate pleading the cause all the time. We never
signed up as fundraisers and although we realize it is part of the job
description, we would rather spend our time helping the poor of Payatas.

In life there are things we have to do all the time. Pay
Bills, ugh! Brush our teeth, comb our hair, take a shower. These things
are all time consuming yet necessary.

If we stop doing them our house would be repossessed or
we will be ejected from out apartment. Our breath would smell, teeth
fall out, severe body odor, lack of friends…

What happens when people stop supporting those who are trying to help others?

Their rent doesn’t get paid, their food is not able to
be bought, programs are cancelled , hope is lost and the Missionaries
return home in despair.

Many missionaries have done this with much more resources than we have.

This month giving was down over $300.

Even those of you with a good income know when you are $300 short one month.

So I will make this plea.

If you have ever considered supporting this ministry,

The people here joke about me being the first American missionary they ever met without a car.

Do you know what?
That’s okay. I am proud to be able to say I don’t live in luxury and
have all the creature comforts. I know no one can doubt my motives or my
methods.

We do however really
enjoy eating three meals a day and to be able to help others do the
same. So if you come, look for a 57 year old man on a bike and bring a
bag of rice with you.

FOUR MORE YEARS! This July 19th we celebrate the end of four wonderful years of serving here in Payatas. It is by the will of the people (and especially God) that we continue to serve. Will you vote for another four years? Vote here:


June has been a good month here in Payatas. School Starts in June here in the Philippines. We received , through caring supporters, the school books my daughter Laura required to enter the fifth grade. I can’t empasize enough that when you support this mission you support all that happens here including my daughter’s education. Thank You. Not only that but… My wife came to me saying that the poor kids needed school supplies. I said I was sorry but I have no money and I will not ask for money again from the supporters. I said, “Don’t worry, God knows this too.” Well, I got an email from a supporter who said she was feeling uncomfortable all month and asked God what she had done wrong. She felt God respond and tell her that she forgot the kids in Payatas. so she sent us 300 sgd so that the children could get the required supplies. Speaking of School we have our very own and first: BIBLE SCHOOL COLLEGE STUDENT One of our members, Mark Valenzuela, has shown an interest in further studies in the Bible. The Asia Bible Baptist College allows each Church to enroll one student without charge for tuition. There are still charges for uniform, books, etc… but the Church has picked up most of them. Just for Mark to go to school it costs 360 pesos in travelling money. He is a good student and already we have heard good reports on him. Please pray for Mark to maintain a good average at school. Continuing in education… My wife, Malou, has begun a class for the children that still cannot read and because of lack of money, many times the parents never signed them up for school. The children are learning to read because of her dedication. She has about twenty students every Saturday. Please pray that the vision of Payatas can be realized and we could open a school for these children. Link to our website	Payatas Baptist Church has its First Deacon! Brother Joel Austria, a devoted Christian as described in Timothy and Titus, was ordained to the ministry last week. This came after four years of prayer seeking someone that I truly believed that God has called for His purpose. Deacon Joel is a faithful servant who is always there to help in whatever way he can. BAPTISM We don’t always remember to say but we have been doing much in the way of Baptism and last week we baptized one of our youths, “PeeJay”. It is such a blessing as they ask to be baptized and upon evaluation that they do indeed have an accurate belief and are Baptized. OUR HOUSE It has been remarkable to watch God work. As most of you know we had to vacate the last house we occupied more than 3&1/2 years. That house was fully furnished and so, we basically moved nothing into an empty house. Immediately God began to supply more things than we could ever afford. Screens for the windows, a refrigerator, kitchen cabinets, a closet under the stairs, we had beds made for us and the kids. All this within two months. One of our dearest friends has been trying to make collections so we could get sheets and towels and pots and pans. She already sent one box out and another will soon be on the way. When God says “I will not leave or forsake you ” He’s not kidding! Thanks to all who have lovingly sent us much needed supplies. OUR MEDICAL CLINIC Not all news is good. The doctor who convinced me to open the medical clinic and who told me he would be there with me all the way has now decided he has been “called” somewhere else. So, that leaves us with a problem. No doctor, no clinic. I have spoken to one doctor who said she would be able to give us some time but I have no idea as of yet, how much. One thing of which I am convinced is that from the beginning this was God’s work and as He is really in charge of the operation, He will decide who he will send and when. As much as I love the clinic and the way it ministers to the Payatas people, I still must understand that it exists purely by the hand of God. Please pray that God’s will will be done in this place. I hope you are still praying with us for a larger place and I would also ask you to please pray for our sending Church: Bethel Baptist in Harbor City, Ca Pastor Rudy Abrot that they will get all that they need to finish their Church building. WHEEEEW!

It’s All
about the
Kids!

The things
we do
with these kids now will stay with them for a
lifetime. All
over the world there are poor kids that are abused,
hungry,
homeless and are learning from society every evil
that can
be foisted upon them.

At PBC
these
children are learning that God loves them and we are
showing
them that love because we love them too. We are
teaching
them that moral standards still have a place in this
world.
Ethics is not just a word. Do you know that here in
what may
be the filthiest places in the world we teach them
not to
litter! It sounds incredible but these kids are
learning to
respect others as well as themselves.

We got an email from
new friends.

Brother Errol & Sister
Laarmi are missionaries in Mindoro.

They
told me that they had some
friends visiting from the States and that they would
all
like to come to see the dumpsite if that would be
okay. Well
of course it was okay and so they came and brought
with them
200 Jollibee hamburger steak
meals.

So off
we went to distribute them to
the kids at the Dumpsite.

You must
know that the cost of one
meal is probably what their father would earn in one
day. We
passed out the gospel and ministered with the meat
and the
meat of the word.

SETTLING
IN

We are
slowly
settling into the new rental. We were able by the
grace of
God and some generous people, to buy a refrigerator.
We were
able also to put screens on the windows.

The first week there the natives in
the hills decide to burn the hills after the crops
of
whatever they grow were picked. Subsequently,
millions of
these flying bugs swarmed and attacked the village.
They
have a very short life spam so they wound up dead on
the
floors and everywhere else in the house. This
happened
twice. Now you know the priority for screens. We
still do
not have the luxury of sitting on a couch or
sleeping in
beds or even eating at a normal table but there is a
reason
and purpose for everything under heaven and I am
sure to
find out the reason for this
also.

Did
anyone catch
April as it whirled by?

We had such an
amazing
month. We started off broke as usual and asking God

what was going on about the Vacation Bible School
and the
Camp for the Payatas Kids. In all appearances He was
telling
us that it was not going to happen but boy were we
wrong.

Just
about April 9th or so, I was writing to an old
friend (snail
mail-I still do that once in a while) and I wrote
this:
“This year, unless a miracle happens within a couple
of
weeks, no one will be going to camp. There just
aren?t any
sponsors. ” Six days later, we had raised enough to
send 15
kids and we thought that was wonderful. The
donations kept
coming in even two days after the kids left (We
needed funds
for their return transportation) so much that
instead of
transporting 15 kids in a rickety old Jeepny we
transported
45 kids on a brand new air conditioned bus! Once
again, you
have amazed me as you allowed yourself to be used by
God.
Thank you all so much. You have given some very poor

children some peace in their life.

Vacation Bible
School was
accomplished also as we had 102 registered students.
Each
day God provided for the crafts, supplies and for
feeding
the children. It all culminated at a very joyful
graduation
ceremony on Saturday and afterwards, everyone had
Halo-Halo.

Many children have

professed Jesus as Lord and Savior.

I have an urgent need
and once again have to turn to our supporters to
fulfill
that need.

My daughter Laura is
homeschooled by my wife. We get the basic books for
free but
extra books, shipping and administration fees we
have to
pay.

Laura needs her
books to be sent to us. $50
annual enrollment and $125 administration fee at 50%

discount.

Shipping of the books will
cost at least $108 (that was the price last
year.)

So we basically need about

Hello Everyone,

It’s Springtime-Let’s start fresh

My daughter asked me the other day, “If April showers bring
May flowers than what do May flowers bring?” The Answer: Pilgrims

Missionaries have much in common with the Pilgrims as we
have come to a foreign land to bring the Gospel of Jesus Christ to those
who do not know Him. We bring it not just with words but with love and
truth and meaning. When we see the hurting we try to stop it and to help
them find the way to make their lives more fruitful.

People need to see that we “ain’t just talkin’ ” but we are
doing the “walking” also. We try to be who we say we are. This spring
let us start fresh by asking God to renew us again. “Lam 5:21 Turn thou
us unto thee, O LORD, and we shall be turned; renew our days as of
old.”

We Moved!

We were able to find a new house and we moved in this past

We are so relieved to find a nice place in which to retreat
following our days working in Payatas which is filled with pollution. I
pray someday that all in Payatas will also see a new place, that is not
filled with pollution, crime and poverty.

THIS YEAR FOR THE KIDS!

(Unless we can raise the $1,600 we need to send 75 kids)

I have many excuses including my family just moved but the
bottom line is, I should have done my job and tried to raise money
earlier for the camp for the Payatas children.

Now I will ask for your help once again. Last year many of
you gave and because of it 75 people were filled with joy for a week.
Learning, eating, games, contests, swimming, even sleeping in beds. YOU
did that. It is only by the generosity of others that these kids were
able to go and it is the same way this year. Some gave much and some
gave little but everyone gave according to their ability and that is
wonderful. Now I will ask for your help again and I need it yesterday
(but today will be fine)

We are also raising funds for our Vacation Bible School

Saturday. VBS is from

free which leaves us a need only for Arts and crafts supplies and

OUR HEALTH CLINIC
– We have been meeting the needs of so many people who can not afford
even the carfare to go to the doctor let alone the price of the doctor.
Our free medical examination helps those who might never see a doctor
and detect early problems that could be fatal. We share the Gospel with
everyone who comes and the patients are telling other people who they
themselves are becoming patients. Truly, this is an example of how
donating to this mission is helping many, many people. THIS IS YOUR
CLINIC! It is because of YOU, this is able to be done.

NEW MEMBERS – We will be extending the right hand of fellowship to 7 new adult
members. We welcome you all to PBC.

Our Church continues to grow and we are
continuing in prayer that God will open the windows of Heaven and cause
us to have a larger place in which to worship. Please pray with us

Updates 2010

This update is a bit
late as it has been such a month of
trials.

A Tale Of Two States

NEW YORK

I went to New York to
bury my best friend and Sister. While
attending the funeral we had to take my father to the
hospital as he could not
breathe due to complication of his chronic heart
failure. Thank God they were
able to take care of him and he is now at home and
feeling much better. On top of that, my daughter was
coming down
from Buffalo with her two kids in the car and she
skidded on the ice and
wrecked the car. Once again I give thanks that no one
was hurt.

New York had its 4^th
largest snowstorm in its
entire history and I was fortunate to be right there
in the middle. (In case you missed it, that was sarcasm)

I was able to see my Pop
and brother as well as many cousins
that I had not seen in years. Unfortunately as they
say, we only get together at funerals and weddings. As a missionary,
it’s not all funerals or any weddings that I get to attend.

CALIFORNIA

After finishing that
week I flew out to California where I
preached the Sunday night service at my sending
church. It was great to see all the church family as
well as the friends that came to see me.

I was escorted to the
home of my good friends the Smiths
where they allowed me to get a lot of must needed
sleep. The fellowship was
good too!

I was blessed by many
gifts starting with a new laptop
computer from my Church as well as financial gifts and
many personal items that
filled to boxes that I had to ship home.

On the plane home,
someone took sick and they set down in
Alaska to get them help. I always wanted to visit
Alaska but not that way. We
got back in the air over an hour later but too late to
meet up with the
connecting flight to Manila. That however was a
blessing as they put us up in a
great hotel and fed us two great meals and I was able
to sleep once more.

When I had arrived in
California I was overwhelmed by the
beauty. There were flowers and trees and sidewalks
that were not broken and
clean. The sky was beautiful and the air fresh as well
and the houses were
magnificent.

When I lived there I
never appreciated the richness that
everyone enjoys in the U.S. Even the poor are rich
compared to the condition in
the Payatas. It was such a shock to see the contrast
that even I as a permanent
resident of the Philippines never realized existed.

I want to say that as a
missionary whose only income is that
of those who support this ministry, it can be
frustrating when a family death
occurs and you need the money to travel home.
Fortunately, my sending Church
Pastor Rudy Abrot and his wife Sr.
Rina was here in Makati attending the
world conference of Bethany Baptist Church. He
immediately took care of
everything I needed and so I did not have to worry
about traveling back. He
also blessed us by preaching at our Church on Sunday
and visiting our clinic.
He was an encouragement to us.

HOME AGAIN

Now that I am home I
need to actively search for a new home
as we have to now give up the house that we are now
living in. We are thankful
to have been able to live rent free for over three and
a half years but now we
will have to pay rent. It will cost us about $200 per
month and although you
may laugh and think that?s nothing, it is a small
fortune to those without the
means to pay for it. Additionally, we have absolutely
no furnishings of our own
so we will be in a bare apartment to start off. Please
pray that we are able to
get our need supplied.

CLINIC IS PAID!

Another thing that I am
thankful for is that we received
cash gifts that have allowed us to pay the large drug
bill we had at the
clinic. We are hopeful that now the clinic will be
able to pay for itself.

We may also add an
ophthalmologist to our clinic in the next
week or so.

Vacation Bible School

We have been notified
that VBS training will be on March 13^th.
Seven teachers will attend. Our VBS
should be held sometime in April. Each year we have
about 100 children.

A LARGER CHURCH

One thing Pastor Abrot
said to me was ?Brother, you need a
bigger place.? Actually he was overstating the
obvious. He also offered to help
us with it. Please pray that we may get the building
that we need. Our vision
is still to build the compound. It is a $5,000,000.00
vision that we believe
God can easily handle.
